I subscribe to a lot of mailing lists (and yes, spend a lot of my days sorting thru the madness), but I’d like to share with you one of my favorite mailing lists: Oh My Rockness.
We all know Ticketmaster sucks - not just because of their incredibly high service charges, but also because most of the really awesome new / indie bands don’t play shows at venues that are even listed on Ticketmaster. Enter Oh My Rockness.
They grab the tour dates from all the small venues around town - The Satellite, The Echo, Silverlake Lounge, The Bootleg, and even obscure places like The Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock. I suppose it’s not so much about scanning what’s happening at these clubs, but more so about grabbing the dates of the bands that we all want to know about while they’re still playing smaller clubs. Ya, it’s fun and humorous to follow Britney Spears’ teetering career. (I’ve definitely considered actually using that pre-sale password for a huge stadium show. Just for kicks.) But if you want to put your money to better use, and see the real, inspiring talent, you gotta get yourself to the good stuff. You gotta find the live music that is doing something different and cool. Oh My Rockness can help with that.
An updated list is sent out every Friday offering Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York dates. Here are this week’s Just Announced L.A. dates - and lucky for us, they even include links to the ticket purchase pages!
